On 12 May 2025, the National Council for Economics and Labour (CNEL) hosted the presentation of the volume “A New Bretton Woods for a New World. Reflections on the Future 80 years After the Bretton Woods Conference“, authored by ISEA Senior Fellows Giovanni Tria and Angelo Federico Arcelli, and published by the Transatlantic Leadership Network.
The event followed previous presentations held in Washington, at the Centro Studi Americani in Rome, and at the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, offering a significant opportunity for dialogue on the future of the international monetary system, eighty years after the historic Bretton Woods Conference.
As highlighted in the official summary published on the CNEL website, the volume explores the evolution of the U.S. dollar as a global currency and opens a broader reflection on the current global economic and financial order.
The session opened with remarks by CNEL President Renato Brunetta, and continued with a roundtable discussion featuring Pier Carlo Padoan, Luigi Paganetto, Paolo Savona, and the two authors. The debate was moderated by Federico Fubini, journalist for Corriere della Sera.
ISEA, which supported the initiative, reaffirms its commitment to contributing actively to the international debate on major ongoing economic transformations.

Il Consiglio Nazionale dell’Economia e del Lavoro (CNEL) ha ospitato il 12 maggio 2025 la presentazione del volume “A New Bretton Woods for a New World: Reflections About the Future 80 Years After the Bretton Woods Conference“, a cura dei Senior Fellow ISEA, Giovanni Tria e Angelo Federico Arcelli, pubblicato dal Transatlantic Leadership Network.
L’incontro, che segue quelli già svolti a Washington, al Centro Studi Americani di Roma e al Ministero dell’Economia e delle Finanze, ha rappresentato un’importante occasione di confronto sul futuro del sistema monetario internazionale, a ottant’anni dalla storica Conferenza di Bretton Woods.
Come riportato nel resoconto ufficiale pubblicato sul sito del CNEL, il volume analizza l’evoluzione del ruolo del dollaro come valuta globale e propone una riflessione sull’attuale assetto economico-finanziario mondiale.
I lavori si sono aperti con l’intervento del Presidente del CNEL, Renato Brunetta, e sono proseguiti con una tavola rotonda che ha visto la partecipazione di Pier Carlo Padoan, Luigi Paganetto, Paolo Savona e degli stessi autori. Il dibattito è stato moderato dal giornalista Federico Fubini del Corriere della Sera.
